Everything you want to know about TV and internet on location

From choosing technology to costs, management and security. Written for managers and decision-makers, not engineers.

Quick answers

How quickly can a location go online?

With a mobile package, often the same week; with a fixed line, the provider's delivery time applies, usually a few weeks.

Does RIAN also work at temporary locations?

Yes. Construction sites, events and energy projects usually get a mobile package that can move on again afterwards.

Can I reuse my current equipment?

Often, yes. During the site survey we determine which cabling and equipment remains usable.

Is management always included in the price?

Yes, management and 24/7 monitoring are included in the fixed monthly price; you don't pay per outage.

Do you work with a single brand?

No, we're brand-independent and monitor equipment from multiple manufacturers in one portal.

What does a site survey cost?

Nothing. The site survey and advice are free of charge and without obligation.

Channel packages, IPTV, coax and picture quality on location.

IPTV or coax: which do you choose?

Both deliver a picture in the room, but they differ in flexibility and management.

Coax uses the cabling that's often already there. It's reliable and cheap to reuse, but you can steer very little: every room gets the same signal and you can't see what's going wrong.

IPTV runs over the data network. That lets you set which channels are available per room or department, show a welcome screen, and see remotely whether a receiver is working.

In practice we often choose a hybrid set-up: the existing coax stays in place for rooms where nothing needs to change, and IPTV is added wherever you do want control.

  • Coax: lowest investment with existing cabling
  • IPTV: configurable per room and remotely monitored
  • Hybrid: reuse where you can, renew where you must

Which channels am I allowed to pass on to guests or residents?

Distribution at a business location requires the right licence.

Passing television on to guests, residents or patients doesn't fall under a residential subscription. Business distribution licences exist for this, depending on the number of connections and the type of location.

We arrange the licence as part of the package and keep track of how many connections are active, so you're not faced with surprises afterwards.

Why does the picture stutter in some rooms?

Picture problems are rarely caused by the television itself.

With coax the cause is usually signal loss: too many splitters, cables that are too long, or old distribution units. A measurement per floor immediately shows where the signal drops.

With IPTV it's almost always the network: too little bandwidth, incorrect switch settings, or wifi instead of a cable to the receiver.

Because we manage both the signal and the network, you don't have to work out whose problem it is.

Frequently asked questions

What exactly does RIAN do?

RIAN supplies and manages television and internet at business locations. We take care of the signal, the hardware, the installation and day-to-day management with 24/7 monitoring, so you have a single point of contact instead of a provider, an installer and a supplier.

Which locations does RIAN work for?

Holiday parks and hotels, care institutions and assisted-living complexes, ships and offshore, and industrial or temporary locations such as construction sites and energy projects.

How quickly can a location go online?

A standard internet package is pre-configured and delivered in a single box; connecting usually takes less than an hour. For a full TV and network installation, we plan an installation date after the site survey.

What does it cost?

The price depends on the number of connections, the desired speed and whether infrastructure is already in place. After a free site survey you receive a fixed monthly price including management and monitoring.

What does a free site survey involve?

We look at the existing cabling, coverage and connection options, the number of users and your requirements. Within a few working days you then know what's possible, what it costs and how quickly it can be arranged.

Can I take TV and internet separately?

Yes. Many customers start with internet and later add managed IPTV, or the other way round. The architecture is set up so that expanding doesn't require a new installation.

Do you work across the whole country?

Yes, throughout the Netherlands and at maritime and offshore locations beyond. We manage and monitor remotely; for installation and faults we come on site.

Do I stay the owner of the network?

You decide whether to buy the equipment or take it under management. Either way, you get insight via the portal and retain access to your own configuration and reports.

What about contracts and cancelling?

We work with clear terms per location. If a location relocates or stops, the package can in most cases move to another location instead of lapsing.

What is managed IPTV?

IPTV is television over the network instead of via separate coax receivers. Managed means RIAN takes care of the channel package, the rights, the equipment and the monitoring; you manage everything centrally in one portal.

Can I reuse my existing coax installation?

Often, yes. During the site survey we determine whether the existing cabling is suitable; if not, we deliver a hybrid solution where coax and IP work side by side.

Are the channel rights arranged?

Yes. RIAN supplies the channel package together with the relevant licences for business distribution, including the correct rights per type of location.

What happens in the event of a fault?

Our monitoring usually sees outages on the headend, network or screen status before a guest calls. Notifications reach us and we resolve them remotely, or send an engineer.

Which channels are in the package?

A basic package with Dutch and Belgian channels, expandable with international, German or Polish packages and theme channels. Per type of location we put together the package that suits your guests or residents.

Does it work on guests' or residents' existing TVs?

Yes. We supply a media player per screen, or use hotel mode and app integration on suitable smart TVs. When replacing sets, we recommend models that work directly with the system.

Can I show my own channels or information?

Yes. A dedicated welcome channel, information pages, house rules or park information can be added to the channel list, in your own house style.

How much bandwidth does IPTV use?

We allow roughly 8 to 12 Mbit/s per simultaneous stream. We separate TV traffic from the guest and business network, so peak usage doesn't affect the picture.

What's in the box?

A pre-configured Peplink B One 5G router, a 5G MIMO antenna with mounting materials, the necessary cabling, a SIM card with data bundle and a short manual. Connecting to power and the existing line is all that's needed.

What packages are available?

Four: Core for a fast basic connection, Connect with a fixed line and automatic 5G back-up, Continuity with multiple back-up paths (fibre, 5G and Starlink) and 24/7 monitoring, and Enterprise as a bespoke multi-site solution with SD-WAN.

Which package suits my location?

Core suits 1 to 20 users, Connect 20 to 75, Continuity 75 and above or business-critical locations, and Enterprise organisations with multiple sites. If in doubt, we work it out together during the site survey.

Does it also work at a location without a connection?

Yes. For locations without a fixed line we supply mobile or satellite connections, with failover so the connection keeps working if one path drops.

How does your monitoring work?

We monitor multivendor from our own portal: Peplink, Nebula Cloud and equipment from other brands in one overview. You see live status per location, data usage and uptime, receive automatic alerts for faults, low battery or failover, and manage firmware, settings and permissions centrally.

How quickly does the back-up switch over?

Automatically and within seconds. Sessions such as card payments, camera footage and telephony therefore keep running in practice.

Can I get a fixed IP address?

Yes. A fixed external IP address can be added per location, for example for VPN, camera management or remote access.

Can I scale up later?

Yes. Packages are modular; extra access points, more bandwidth, extra data bundles or a second connection are added without redoing the installation.

How is the network secured?

Guest traffic and business traffic are separated into distinct networks, with managed firewall settings, VPN to head office where desired and automatic updates on the equipment.

How do I roll out a new location?

With Zero Touch Deployment: the equipment fetches the correct configuration itself as soon as it comes online. No configuration on site is needed.

What if there's still a fault?

Our monitoring usually sees it before you do. We resolve it remotely via the platform; if that's not possible, an engineer comes out. With an extended SLA you get shorter response times and priority.
