WAN bonding

Using multiple internet lines simultaneously as one connection, so losing one line interrupts nothing.

Also known as: SpeedFusion, combining lines, multi-WAN

With ordinary failover, a router switches over as soon as the main line drops. With bonding, the lines run simultaneously: traffic is split across fibre and 5G and recombined at the other end of the tunnel.

You notice the difference during an outage. With switchover, a phone call, payment transaction or video call still drops; with bonding, the session stays up because the other line is already carrying the traffic.

Bonding does require an endpoint: traffic runs through a tunnel to a central point. That's why it's a choice for applications that really can't afford to stutter, not a default for all guest wifi.
